Using Berkeley Interdisciplinary Migration Initiation (BIMI) and our independent research, we have compiled information on the health and legal clinics that specifically serve with an understanding of the immigrant population in San Mateo. For those who are looking for resources, you may visit one of the three pages above. Below we will discuss the need for these kinds of services for immigrants.

Health

Health Care is a necessity for ALL community members, regardless of immigration status. Our team used BIMI data to find health services within the county. This page provides information on the health organizations and the various services available in San Mateo County.

Legal

There is an obvious need for legal help in the immigrant community. San Mateo County Legal aid, whether in the form on law firms or non-profits for example, provide immigrants with the resources they need to obtain citizenship, come to understand their rights, and be prepared to live as a resident of the United States. This page provides information on the legal organizations and the various services available in San Mateo County gathered from the BIMI data.

Political Engagement

Political engagement is an important aspect of citizenship in the U.S. and allows citizens to express their needs. It is necessary to inform the community members, including immigrants, on local, state, and nationwide elections. San Mateo County provides many resources for voting and political engagement.

Food Security

There tends to be a lack of quality, healthy food for those of lower socio-economic status. Our research shows that the poverty rate among foreign-born non-US citizens is double that of foreign-born citizens and native US citizens (see graph on "County Overview --> County Profile), making this group in possible need of food resources. To understand how to take advantages of community resources, we have provided a infographic (in Spanish and English).
